Queen marks 60-year reign with City service

6th June 2012

QUEEN Elizabeth II rounded off her four-day Diamond Jubilee yesterday on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony after celebrating in the City.

A thanksgiving service, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, was held yesterday morning at St Paul’s Cathedral to commemorate the monarch’s sixty year reign.

The Queen then attended a reception, hosted by the Lord Mayor at Mansion House, before dining at a City of London Livery companies lunch at Westminster Hall.

But for many, the highlight of the day was the carriage procession from the lunch back to Buckingham Palace, followed by an RAF flypast over the palace and a spectacular show from the Red Arrows.

Despite the absence of Prince Philip, in hospital due to a bladder infection, the Queen said last night she had been “touched deeply” by the nation’s celebrations.
