Robots would make terrible gods.
Elizabeth Oldfield responds to the idea that humans might start worshipping artificial intelligence in the near future, following the ‘singularity’ – the moment when artificial intelligence becomes self–conscious. She proposes that we take a second look at the so–called ‘old religions.’
Elizabeth is host of The Sacred podcast. She was Theos’ Director from August 2011 – July 2021. She appears regularly in the media, including BBC One, Sky News, and the World Service, and writing in The Financial Times.
