Immigration does not undermine British religiosity – it is the only thing that sustains it

Britain is becoming less religious and less white. These are two key facts from the latest 2021 census data. This is a major concern for many on the right. But one of these facts seems to grab more attention from the most prominent right–wing media voices than the other: the racial shifts of the past decade. The number of people who identify as white has fallen to 81.7 percent from 86 percent in 2011. The number of white Britons has fallen from 80.5 percent in 2011 to 74.4 percent. Author and columnist Douglas Murray sees the decline in the white population as a validation of his book The Strange Death of Europe. Politician and broadcaster Nigel Farage also sees his prophecies come true.

Meanwhile, Church of England priest and GB News presenter Calvin Robinson tweeted that for the first time in almost a thousand years, less than half the population of England and Wales identify as Christian and that 37 per cent of the population do not identify with any Religion, but that many of the country’s largest cities – from London to Manchester and Birmingham – are now white minority English towns.
